Organizers for the 3rd Expo relocated the venue from Cal Expo to Sacramento State University.  Moving to Sac State’s Student Union Building offered all the sessions and trade show to take place in one inclusive facility, which had a tremendous amount of advantages to attendees, presenters and suppliers since the sessions were earmarked for designated meeting rooms offering sessions in rooms with a/v; seating and real classroom settings.  Speakers presenting on larger attended sessions particularly liked the lSac State Posterecture halls and the ambiance that the campus provided.  Attendees were provided with complimentary parking and had the option of several food vendors within the Student Union Building, and the campus was centrally located to suit the various needs of attendees.

More Sessions Offered for 2007 – The Expo Expands its Curriculum - The course curriculum was expanded to accommodate more than 100 sessions and educational tracks.  For the first time a new ‘track’ was included and implemented to satisfy the need IMG_0005for construction management and business development classes.  These sessions were primarily focused toward business owners and managers.  This new education focus was a win-win for participants as well as sponsors and exhibitors looking for a cost-effective way to gain exposure with industry purchasers.  More than 20 business development sessions were offered, and it was proven that construction management classes were a good draw to attract additional owners and managers.

One More Day – Longer Title – Increased Registration Fees The consensus based on the expanding course offerings was to add one more day to the conference program to accommodate the demand for equipment certification and the addition of the construction management classes, while still maintaining the two-day trade show format.  Based on industry input and the recommendation to modify the tag line to “Construction Industry Training and Trade Show” replacing the previous moniker, “Where Safety Training Comes First.” The conference was compelled to bump up the pre-registration fee to $35 and $50 on-site!   Once again, it was claimed that the Expo program is the only Northern California Expo combining construction industry management, safety training, and a full trade show!

VIP Forum Takes Place During the Expo - The second VIP Forum was modified for 2007 – in lieu of an evening event, it was recommended that the Forum be scheduled in conjunction with the Expo program.   It was marketed as by-invitation, and presented as the VIP Breakfast Forum – the topic for 2007 was, “Criminal Prosecution and Multi-Employer Liability.”  Invited attendees took part in the discussion with questions and answers directed at the presenters.  This executive training session provided a fair and balanced overview of regulatory processes with stakeholders leaving the session with a better understanding of:

  • Cal/OSHA investigative process/outcomes.
  • California District Attorneys Association involvement and criteria for targeting companies/individuals for criminal prosecution.
  • Managing risks, negative outcomes, costs and the need to establish effective defenses to protect personnel and business assets.
  • Developing effective approaches so the company can be recognized as proactive in safety management and accident prevention.

Close to 100 people attended the Forum consisting of owners, principals and industry stakeholders – panelists included: Dave Strickler, Moderator, Cal/OSHA Consultation; Gary McIver, Jr., Cal/OSHA Enforcement, John Vacek and Donna Dulyea with the California District Attorneys Association; Robert D. Peterson, Esq., and Dave D. Bare, Cal/OSHA Consultation.
