Since its inaugural debut in 2005, the Expo has become a premier source in safety education and training for California’s construction and building industry. In 2010, the Expo diversified the current program model in an effort to satisfy the training needs and requirements of other industries by partnering with the Public Equipment Managers Association (PEMA). This positive collaboration between the two organizations provided a comprehensive curriculum to enhance and compliment the Expo’s safety training and workshop offerings. The end result affirmed that diversification and collaboration between multiple industries is attainable.

The Expo extends an open invitation to those of you who are responsible for worker safety, training and education. Please contact Heidi Hughes or Jim Neely at 916.442.8991 for additional information. We welcome the opportunity to work with you and your organization!

Sponsorship and advertising dollars made it possible to provide the Expo with 80 presenters, 140 plus sessions; 40 topics, and compliance certification. We are pleased that the Golden State Builders Exchanges (GSBE) continue supporting this program as The Premier Sponsor of the 2010 Expo.

Supporters of the event not only contributed in the way of traditional monetary sponsorships, but underwrote unique components of the Expo — coffee and pastries for each of the three mornings of registration were provided complimentary to all attendees by The PENTA Building Group, while morning and afternoon refreshments during the trade show were sponsored by the Builders Exchange of Alameda County, which also provided registration opportunities for the Cypress Mandela Group of of Oakland to attend training sessions at the event. The Valley Contractors Exchange helped made it possible for several Butte College students to take advantage of compliance and equipment certification sessions. Roebbelen once again, sponsored the badge holders and McCarthy Building Companies provided the badge lanyards.

Everyone in the industry is feeling the pains associated with what some are calling the ‘biggest recession’ since the Great Depression. While there are indications that the economy is on the path to recovery, industry professionals suggest that construction will continue to struggle in the foreseeable future. Despite these tough economic times, employers recognize the importance of education and training by sending more than 1,000 workers to the 2010 Safety Expo.

Expo Presenters/Trainers/Instructors — Due to the overwhelmingly positive numbers of attendees, we are extremely fortunate to have access to the industries best trainers and educators. Each of the more than 60 trainers volunteers their services for the three-day event – it is without a doubt that their continued commitment and support of this event is the cornerstone of our success. Returning speakers are now invited to submit session topics for the 2011 Safety Expo starting in August and September for the 7th annual event program curriculum. In the six-year history of the event, close to 6,000 attendees have registered in more than 14,000 sessions presented by 350 presenters and trainers. If everyone who attends the Statewide Safety Training & Construction Management Expo is taken into account, volunteers, exhibitors, monitors, and speaker assistants, more than 9,000 individuals have participated in the past six years. Plans are now currently underway to begin the presenter and session curriculum process in order to prepare for the registration marketing, promotion and printed materials available in late Fall.

The VIP Forum — presented by the Denver based firm of Rockford Gray informed an audience of attendees made up of safety professionals; including company owners, senior leaders and managers. This forum included group sessions where the audience participated in a press capacity in mock media interviews and worse case scenarios. The Forum topic session was extremely well-received, and we appreciate and thank Rockford Gray for their time and expertise which they provided to enthusiastic Forum attendees.

The federal OSHA 10 Outreach certification training is one of the best attended sessions offered in the past five years. This year has the newly “certified” fully California edition Cal/OSHA 10 Hazard Awareness for Construction.

“What’s the difference” is one of the most asked questions whether phoned-in or e-mailed to Expo staff. First, you could not find two better instructors than Mark Aniello, ECR and Bob Downey, RED Safety Consulting, as the bookends for the 2010 Safety Expo. Anyone who has participated in any training by either of these two professionals; knows that they have been trained by two of the very best!

The Federal OSHA 10 is nationally recognized, and a valued card no matter where you work particularly if your company has job sites outside the state of California. California has been recognized for years as the innovator in safety and as such, California leads the way in safe practices often far more stringent than nationally or the surrounding states. Therefore, if you have the Cal/OSHA ticket, you will know that you have been trained at the leading edge of core California standards. The Cal/OSHA 10 will certainly grow with more instructors certified and qualified to teach it — this is an opportunity to be trained by one of the first and best.

As for the ‘gold standard Fed-OSHA ticket’ to a job site, the OSHA 10 Outreach is now often required just to be on the job site. For those looking to keep their job or move their name up the list to get a job this is the training you need! Both of these sessions have mandated limits on class size and they are filling quickly, therefore visit www.sacsafetyexpo.com – register for the Safety Expo, and get in a workshop.

As a final note, you will notice that there is an “add-on” fee of $25 for both these workshops. That money goes directly to the instructor for materials and information binder, and the processing and mailing of the individual certification cards.

Registration is still only $50 for all three days of nearly 140 sessions at the 2010 Safety Expo.
