Tracks

The Safety Expo Topic Tracks are designed to aid attendees in selecting appropriate training sessions during the annual three-day event. The past three years with over 60 workshop topics and more than 120 sessions grouping similar subjects into four specific groups makes workshop selection easy and quick.

Construction Compliance Certification topics are those that earn the attendee a certification card in addition to the normal workshop attendee ‘certificate of completion.’ The certification classes tend to be longer and more formalized because the instructor validates that the individual attendee completes the coursework, testing, hands-on skills, or the requirements of the certification. The Expo does not issue these specialized certification cards – it’s the instructor, company or organization that is solely responsible for their validation and creation. Traditionally, the first day of the Expo has the largest concentration of these workshops although the Expo Committee tries to offer repeat sessions on Wednesday and Thursday to help avoid scheduling conflicts.

Construction Safety topics are those which are appropriate for both commercial and residential construction. Each attendee receives an individualized certificate of completion for remaining in the workshop for the duration of the class. Attendees must physically check in and then check out of the workshop by presenting their speaker/topic evaluation form at the end of the session. These topics may encompass trade areas outside of construction because of the nature of the subject, such as ladder safety as an example. Whether you are on a construction site, in a warehouse, or work for a municipality, or if your job tasks and responsibilities require you to climb a ladder this topic would be appropriate.

Construction Management topics are those which are focused on the proper and profitable running of your business. They encompass legal, financial, human resources, and organizational issues which can make your business successful. Traditionally, this track has featured five attorneys who present their specific topic and then opens the discussion to any related problems and questions you might have. This past Expo introduced a series of six Green workshops that proved very popular.

Special Projects are topics, programs, or subjects that do not fit the normal workshop design. They tend to be presented in the form of forums, panels, interactive role playing, or some person or topic of great importance. The Annual VIP Forum is one example, the “View From the Top” with John Duncan and Len Welsh this past year is another. The Expo Planning Committee works collectively to develop these special sessions which traditionally draw a large crowd.

Every effort is focused on getting all workshop titles to properly describe what is going to happen in that session, and a detailed course description so that you can make the best judgment of which workshop for which to register. The ‘track’ system is organized to help you make the right decision.
