2010 Safety Expo Presenters


We are extremely fortunate to have access to the industry’s best trainers and educators.  Each of the more than 80 presenters volunteered their time and services for the three-day event—it is without a doubt that their continued commitment and support of the Safety Expo is the cornerstone of our success!


Bruce Anderson – Safety Center Incorporated

Bruce Anderson is Manager of Curriculum Development and Senior Staff Instructor, for Safety Center Incorporated, in Sacramento, California.  Bruce is a former law enforcement officer, field trainer and undercover narcotics officer with the California Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement.  Mr. Anderson utilizes his martial arts and law enforcement expertise in the development of personal security and self-defense training programs.  He provides workplace, personal, and field staff safety and security training to senior executives, management, and employees of a vast array of private business and corporations, state, county, city government and professional organizations and associations.  Mr. Anderson also trains teachers, parents and children in school districts nationwide in personal protection and safe school development.  In April 2006,  he joined the Occupational Health and Safety Training Department of Safety Center Incorporated where he uses his construction background to train students in mobile equipment, excavation, fall protection, Cal/OSHA-8, First Aid/CPR/AED, blood borne pathogens, defensive driving, Cal/OSHA 10/30, traffic control/flagger safety, as well as personal safety, security and emergency planning courses.  Email—bruce@safetycenter.org

Mark Aniello – ECR, Inc.

Mark Aniello is the President and Chief Executive Officer of ECR, Inc., (Environmental Compliance and Remediation, Inc.). He is responsible for developing the vision and strategy for the company’s growth through the use of client focused initiatives.    Mark has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of health and safety compliance services. He has a thorough knowledge of the Federal and California Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA and Cal/OSHA) Regulations and has helped a wide variety of clients including: automotive, manufacturing, telecommunications, and administrative settings.  Mark has experience in conducting multimedia environmental health and safety compliance audits, loss control evaluations, and ergonomics assessments and is a Registered Environmental Assessor (REA) in the State of California under the direction of the Environmental Protection Agency, an OSHA Outreach Trainer under the US Department of Labor, and is a certified ISO 14000 Environmental Management System Lead Auditor. Jerry Bach Safety Center Incorporated

Jerry Bach CSHM is Vice President of Safety & Health Services at Safety Center Incorporated where he oversees the development of quality training programs.  He assists organizations in identifying workplace hazards, development of customized safety programs, and training in such areas as defensive driving, traffic control, forklift, and aerial lift.  This will be his fourth year as a presenter at the Expo.  Email—Jerry@safetycenter.org

Bonnie Berger – State Compensation Insurance Fund

Don Bradway – Monarch-Kneis Insurance Services

Don is safety manager for Monarch-Kneis Insurance Services, a California-based insurance brokerage specializing in construction clients. His safety career has included working as a firefighter/paramedic and fire training officer, workers compensation loss control consultant and a supervisor for medics on offshore oil platforms. He has served as Corporate Safety Director for one of the largest residential roofing contractors in the U.S. and for two multi-state highway contractors. He was Chairman of the AGC of California Safety & Health Council, received the annual Associate of the Year Award and was a founding member of the Construction Division of the National Safety Council. Andy Bull – CH Bull Company

Tom Burke – Schetter Electric, Inc.

Tom Burke is a retired fire fighter with 27 years in the fire service.  He is currently the safety Manager for Schetter Electric, a 50 year old commercial electrical company.  He has seven years experience in commercial and residential construction safety with expertise in confined space, respiratory protection, and accident investigation, as well as CPR, first aid, automatic external defibrillator and blood borne pathogens. Nick Cloud serves as Safety Director of McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.’s Northern Pacific Division and has been with the company for more than a decade. Richard DaRosa Cal/OSHA Consultation Services

Michael Donlon, PE Cal/OSHA Research and Standards

Michael Donlon P.E. is a Senior Safety Engineer with Cal/OSHA Research and Standards and develops training programs for Cal/OSHA Engineers.  He worked in the Enforcement Unit and as a Regional Senior Safety Engineer as well as working for the Standards Board.  Previously he worked for the Air Force as a System Safety Engineer, Industrial Safety Engineer and a Construction Safety Manager.   Mr. Donlon has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a Registered Professional Safety Engineer.  Email—mdonlon@dir.ca.gov

Dr. Kendon Dressel – Nibbi Brothers General Contractors

Kendon has a broad background in construction, safety and healthcare.  Starting as a rough carpenter in concrete residential construction, he later worked as a safety and security professional at a large industrial plant, as an emergency response team member and an industrial firefighter.  Other opportunities saw him work as an EMT, a heavy equipment operator, member of an air-mountain rescue team and in shipping, handling and detonating explosives.

His true passion, aside from blowing things up, lies in the field of healthcare; where he is a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic and Sports Physician.  While running a worker’s compensation and sports injury practice he had the opportunity to work on athletes ranging from the industrial, to the amateur, Olympic, Special Olympic and professional.  Dr. Dressel is a strength and conditioning specialist, specialist in biomechanics and also has worked as a Qualified Medical Examiner.

In 2000 he left private practice to move further upstream in the prevention and preservation of health and in 2005 joined Nibbi Brothers General Contractors as their EHS Director.   He is a CSP, CHST and OHST and as an experienced lecturer, Kendon loves sharing his knowledge and expertise and combined with his compassion for the health of others, hopes that everyone can benefit from his diversity, unique perspective and insight.  Email—kendond@nibbi.com

John Ford – Cal/OSHA

John ford is a Cal/OSHA Senior Safety Consultant, based in San Bernardino, California.  Mr. Ford has been with Cal/OSHA since 1984 and worked on the Cal/VPP team from 1989 to 2000.  He has more than 20 years experience in the safety and health field.  Mr. Ford also worked for McCarthy Contractors and Jacobs Engineering Group as a Safety Engineer from 1987 to 1989 during the Cal/OSHA disengagement.  Email—jford@hq.dir.ca.gov

Robert Fried – Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo

Robert Fried is a partner in the Pleasanton office of Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo. Mr. Fried has represented clients before the United States Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court and other state and federal appellate courts, including many of the leading cases determining the scope and application of California public works law and such issues as extension of prevailing wage to private and off site construction, special districts and charter cities.  Most recently he was amicus counsel for a coalition of industry groups in Chamber of Commerce vs. Brown (US S. Ct 2008), in which the Court invalidated a California statute that would have restricted an employer’s right to free speech in workplace during organizing campaigns when they receive state funds.

He serves as outside general counsel to construction industry associations where he regularly consults with and advises contractor and developer members.  His practice ranges from representation of the employer facing a labor commissioner, DFEH, NLRB or OSHA case to class action wage and hour, and unfair business practices defense. He is active as a mediator and expert witness in employment and public works matters.

Mr. Fried was named one of 12 outstanding attorneys by the East Bay Business Times in their annual review of area attorneys and has been consistently listed as one of the top litigators in the San Francisco Bay Area (Top Lawyers in the Bay Area, Bay Area Lawyer Magazine, July/August 2006). Mr. Fried currently serves as an appointee of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Governor’s Committee on the Employment of Persons with Disabilities. He was also an appointee of Governor Pete Wilson to the Transportation Industry Panel of the Industrial Welfare Commission of the State of California. His extensive background in teaching and writing includes a key authorship role in the creation of California’s most respected publications on human resources and labor and law, published by the California Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Fried received his BA degree, magna cum laude, from the University of California, Berkeley, and his JD degree from Santa Clara University School of Law, where he was Technical Editor of the Santa Clara Law Review. Steve Gray – Rockford Gray

Steve Gray’s career includes 12 years of award- winning news reporting and more than 20 years as a media consultant.  He has considerable experience developing crisis plans and providing real-time counsel during crisis situations.

Jim Hay – State Compensation Insurance Fund

Kenneth LaneChabot-Las-Positas

Ken Lane has over 30 years of safety and occupational health training experience.

In addition to being an authorized OSHA instructor, Ken has taught 10/30 hour Excavation and Fall Protection at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and throughout Northern California.  As a Construction Manager for LLNL, Ken is responsible for the construction of research and explosive test facilities, ensuring that facilities are held to the highest safety standards in both in construction and operations. Her litigation practice is now focused on representing employers in defense of OSHA citations, serious and willful misconduct and worker’s compensation discrimination claims.

Ms. Prince is a member of the Labor and Employment Sections of the American, California State and Sonoma County Bar Associations, the American Society of Safety Engineers, and the Safety and Health Council of the Associated General Contractors of California (AGC). She recently coauthored a successful amicus curie (friend of the court) brief on behalf of AGC regarding Cal/OSHA’s multi-employer worksite liability regulations. Marv Rockford – Rockford Gray

Co-founder and principal of Rockford Gray, Marv Rockford did just about every job in a television newsroom in career that led to more than 20 years as a television News Director and General Manager.   During that time Marv endured a couple crises of his own and directed coverage of more than a few.  That experience provides a depth of understanding of how the news media will react when a crisis hits a Rockford Gray client.

Prior to founding Rockford Gray in 2003, Marv was General Manager of KCNC-TV.  The station was awarded the highest American broadcast journalism honors including the DuPont, the Peabody, the Iris, and the National Headliner Award and was an unprecedented three-winner of the national Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence.

Marv holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern University.  Originally from Chicago, Marv lives in Denver with his wife Renee and their three children.

Ed Yarbrough – Cal TRANS

Ed Yarbrough is currently a CalTrans North Region Construction Safety Coordinator.  His primary job is to conduct field safety reviews of all CalTrans Construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with Cal/OSHA Title 8 laws and also to ensure any potential Cal/OSHA Multi-Employer or tort liability is minimized for CalTrans.  Mr. Yarbrough also conducts Design Safety Reviews of projects at the 95% Design phase to ensure that projects meet all safety requirements.  He conducts regular safety trainings for all construction personnel, teaching 20-30 classes per year on both general safety and traffic control.  Email—h_yarbrough@sbcglobal.net
